A month in the Marina

Hallo I am Mrs Classic Coble! Sandy has gone to drive the big ships, the coble is tied up in the Marina nothing else for it but  to go and feed the swans on the little shore! I am sure there will be more blogs from Sandy at sea but he will be busy so the next fishing adventures will be March now! Can't wait!

Making fast for winter weather

Coquet Island yesterday from Hauxley beach. We went for a walk along the beach to see if there were any velvet crabs around but by the time we arrived the tide was too far in so we decided instead to have a run up the beach for a bit of exercise. These are a few photographs of where we live! Its time to go back to sea and leave this all behind for another month.

I will keep you posted, when I get an opportunity, on more background history of the cobles. In the meantime the Morning Star is now made fast for February winds see you again in early March, Sandy

A month on leave

When I arrived home at the start of my leave the place was frozen
the boat was frozen and the crew were frozen!

The boat was frozen to the Marina
After it thawed out we got a couple of trips and the crew were ready for it!

What better way to round off a fishing trip than some peppered cod and fresh home made bread.

History of Coble building in Amble

This is the Morning Star being painted up for last summer. She is in Amble Boat Company which was Harrison's Boat Building Yard which had a long tradition of coble building. Here also are two archive pictures of the coble Charisma under contruction in 1985.
I will be including more about the building of the Morning Star in further postings

Interest

Hi
If you are interested in fishing and would like a trip on a fishing coble then please do forward your interest and email me at sandy.scott@live.co.uk

Line caught breaded haddock

Good day today managed to catch an nice piece of haddock for lunch.

First thing I did was fillet the fish and then skin it.

Here is a simple process that turned out delicious! First I coated the fish in strong white flour,  then whisked egg (we don't yet have our own chickens but we have a supply of fresh eggs from hens that run free) and finally dipped in bread crumbs.

I like to use olive oil in a nice hot pan as this makes a good crust sealing in all the goodness and flavour.
Enjoy your haddock and keep fishing!

The cooking of the catch

Cold water crab now your talking! Get a fresh crab and boil it in sea water for the same time as lobster.
Open up the claws to expose the white meat and you will find the main body of the crab is full of brown meat. Separate these two meats as they produce different flavours.! Serve with some crusty bread, fresh salad and you have a great meal. Enjoy
